Born in 1892 in Matching, Essex son of Frederick William and Harriet Winifred Fitch and lived in Balls Park Lodge, London Road, Hertford as a bank clerk in 1911 and later at White Lodge, Mangrove Road, Hertford. He married Alice Elizabeth.


Educated at Hertford Grammar School.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford 3081 Private Hertfordshire Regiment and entered France on 6 Nov 1914. He obtained a commission in the Suffolk Regiment on 27 Jan 1915.


Died of pneumonia at Camp Lewis, Washington while attached to the British Military Mission in Washington.

Additional Information

Walter is also commemorated in his parents' headstone in Hertford Corporation Cemetery. His part of the inscription reads:

ALSO OF OUR DEAR SON
CAPTAIN WALTER F. FITCH. M.C WHO DIED NOVEMBER 1ST 1918 AGED 25 YEARS.
