Pre War

Born on 18 Jul 1898 in Bradford, Yorkshire son of Charles Cooper and Ada Jane Vincent later of Haverhill, Suffolk. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1908-16 (Head of School) and was offered a scholarship to Christ Church College, Oxford but chose to join the Army instead.

Wartime Service

He enlisted as 764047 Private, 28th London Regiment but was offered a cadetship and was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Coldstream Guards on 29 May 1917 and entered France in Jan 1918. He survived fighting during the German Spring Offensive but was killed in action later.
