Pre War

Born 1897 in Much Hadam, Herts. Son of Alexander Findlay and Jessie S Findlay. His father was a Farmer. Both his parents came from Scotland.


He attended Thundridge Elementary School and Hertford Grammar School. After leaving, helped his father at Sawtrees Farm, Thundridge. Both his mother and father were from Scotland. He had six brothers.

Wartime Service

He initially enlisted into the 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, as Private 14174 Scott Findlay. Later Commissioned into the 19th Battalion Manchester Regiment.


From his Medal card we find he entered the Theatre of War “France” on the 11th August 1915.
