Pre War
Born on 26 Oct 1896 in Haven End, Standon, Herts. son of Abel and Clara Cutmore and christened in High Cross on 3 Dec 1896.
Living in Wadesmill in 1901, when his father was recorded as an agricultural labourer. Then in 1911, still living on Wadesmill, David, then 14 years old, was a farm lad and his father a threshing machine labourer. Later lived in Sute's Farm, High Cross, Ware, Herts. He was the eldest of seven children.
Wartime Service
He initially enlisted in Hertford, at the beginning of the war, according to Herts & Essex Observer, joining the Hertfordshire Regiment (Service No 3769).
Later he transferred/moved to the 14th Battalion, Welsh Regiment.
He is reported to have been wounded in the thigh previously to his death and had had short leaves home in 1917.
