Roland Madison Vaisey was born on 31 Dec 1886 (baptised 10 Feb 1887) to Arthur William Vaisey, solicitor, and Esther (nee Bevir).
On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Harry Bevir (born 1875), Margaret (born 1879), Violet (born 1880), Lilian (born 1882), Veronica (born 1884), May (born 1883), Roland, Olive (born 1890), John E D Bank manager, brother of Arthur, born 1854) and four servants were living at Holly Field, Tring Cove, Tring.
On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Margaret, Violet, Lilian, Olive and Iris (born 1893) were living at Holly Field, Tring.
Roland was educated at Shrewsbury College and Berkhamsted Collegiate school.
On the 1911 Census Roland was a solicitor living with his mother, Lilian, and two servants at Holly Field, Tring.
He married Violet Landon on 7 Oct 1911 and there were children; Aileen (born 1912), Elizabeth (born 1914) and John R M (born 1916).
Wartime Service
Roland gained a commission in 1916 in the Royal Field Artillery and was posted to 36 Brigade, RFA as component of 2nd Division. This division fought at the Somme 1916 (Delville Wood, Ancre, and Operations on the Ancre ), Arras 1917 (1st & 2nd Scarpe, Arleux) and in 1918 the 1st Battles of the Somme (the German Spring Offensive) and 2nd Battles of the Somme (the Allies advances).
Roland was killed in action on 7 Sep 1918 probably as a result of German Counter Battery fire.
Additional Information
Arrears of £157 13s 4d was paid to his widow. Probate of 2653 14s 11d was granted to his brother Harry Bevir Vaisey, barrister and his si sister Margaret.
