Charles Frederick Langham Fearn was born in Paddington, London, on 14 January 1889, the son of Charles and Alice Gertrude Fearn, and baptised at St Luke, South Kensington on 12 May 1889.
They were living at 37 Chippenham Road, and his father was a fruiterer and greengrocer. On the 1911 Census he was living with his mother and siblings at 201 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush and working as a Clerk at a Motorworks.
On enlistment he gave his address as 43 Adelaide Road, Shepherds Bush on enlistment.
On a document dated 19 June 1919 his siblings were confirmed as brother, Reginald Stanley (16 ½) and sisters Alice Gertrude (29), Dorothy Rebecca (28) and Mabel Beatrice (25)
Wartime Service
Charles enlisted on 16 November 1915 at Armoury House, Finsbury, into the Honourable Artillery Company. He was then in training and ‘Home’ service.
He was sent to France and arrived on 18 November 1916. He died on 23 April 1917 but has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
Additional Information
His mother was granted probate of his estate on 8 June 1917 in London, with effects of £133 17s 10d. She also received a pension of 7s 6d a week from 12 March 1918 for life. and a war gratuity of £6 and pay owing of £3 0s 2d. Effects included, razors, shaving brush, shaving soap, air pillow, Mirror and cap badge.
