Pre War
Son of John Robert and Mary Agnes (nee NORTON) FAYERS.
His parents married 9 February 1884 at St Margaret’s, King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Mary died 1933 in Watford aged 73, and was buried 27 October in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; John died 1957 in Watford aged 93, and was buried 3 December, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Sidney was born 25 February 1897 in King’s Lynn, and attended Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 11 January 1904 to 31 July 1908, where he won a County Council Scholarship to Watford Grammar School from 3 September 1908 to June 1913. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1911 Census, at school aged 14, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted 8 November 1915 in Putney, London: age 19, 5’8″ tall, of Watford, and was formerly 3737 City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) and Corporal 7068 23rd (County of London) Battalion London Regiment.
He suffered a gun shot wound to the head 6 January 1917, was awarded the Military Medal 17 July 1917, and promoted to Corporal 29 July 1917.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
