Pre War

Frederick Tysoe was born in 1876 in Haversham, Bucks, the son of James and Emily Tysoe. 


On the 1881 Census he was living with his widowed father and siblings at 4 Wallace Street, Bradwell, Bucks where his father was working as a Blacksmith.


He married Emily Maud Bull in 1909 and they had four daughters, Dorothy, Emily, Mary and Freda. 


On the 1911 Census he was a visitor at the home of Henry Burt and his family at Haversham, Wolverton, Bucks and working as a Farm Labourer (Horsekeeper). His wife was listed at the home of her parents also in Haversham, with their one year old daughter Dorrie (Dorothy).

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Northampton and served with the 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment.


He was killed in action on 9 May 1915. He has no known grave and his name is commemorating on the Le Touret Memorial, France.

Additional Information

His widow received his pay owing of £1 14s 2d for herself and her children. She also received £1 from the war gratuity of £3, the other £2 was paid to Elizabeth Ley, the guardian of his children. She later remarried to Edward Diver in St Albans in 1919. N.B. Emily was imprisoned for deserting her children and her widow's pension was suspended. Mrs Elizabeth Ley of 57 Newport Road, Stantonbury, Bucks became guardian of the children from 6.9.16. A pension of 20 shillings a week (motherless rate) was authorised to be paid to Mrs Ley.
