Pre War

Leslie Cull was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, on 4th July 1896, son of John Cull a, Nurseryman and Florist and Kate Cull (nee Stubbington). One of five children.


He was Baptised at St Mary’s Church, Tottenham, Middx, on 20th September 1896.


1901 Census records Leslie aged 4, living with his parents, two brothers and two sisters at, 36 Collage Road, Cheshunt, Herts.


1911 Census, aged 14, Leslie is a Pupil/Boarder at The Paston Grammar School, Grammar School Road, North Walsham, Norfolk.

Wartime Service

Leslie enlisted initially as a Private in the Hertfordshire Yeomanry. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant to the Bedfordshire Regiment, later transferred to the 13th Reserve Regiment of Cavalry.


Promoted to Lieutenant and posted to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry). He arrived at Alexandria, Egypt, on 31st March 1917, and killed in action on 8th November 1917, aged 21.

His effects of £135-00s-7d, went to his father John Cull.
