Frank William Wade Tupper was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, in the early part of 1899, son of Frank William Tupper a Nursery Gardener and Susannah Tupper (nee Farr). The eldest of three children.
1901 Census records Frank Jr. aged 2, living with his parents, at 162 High street, Cheshunt, Herts.
1911 Census, Frank Jr. (12), is at school, living with his parents, sister Alice (9) and brother Alfred (7), at 8 Nunsbury cottages, Turnford, Herts. His widowed Grandmother Susannah Oakman is living with the family. (His Grandmother had remarried after the death of his Grandfather to Edward Oakman in 1881.
Wartime Service
Frank Jr. travelled to the County Town of Hertford to enlist, initially posted to the Bedfordshire Regiment with the service number 10951, later transferred to the “Kings Own” (Royal Lancaster Regiment) with the service number 28428.
Frank Jr. served on the Western Front. He died on 4th September 1918, aged 19, of wounds received in action. He is Buried in Bac-Du-Sub British Cemetery, Bailleulval, France. Grave Ref: IV. A. 4.
Additional Information
His mother Susannah Tupper received a Dependents Pension of 5/- a week from 6th November 1918.
His effects of £9-9s-00d, pay owing and his war gratuity of £14, went to his father Frank Tupper.
His Headstone Inscription “GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN” was requested by Mr. F. W. Tupper, of 1 Turnford Villas, Turnford, Herts. (His father).
On some records he is recorded as a Lance Corporal.
