Pre War

Gerald was born in 1898 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Son of Edgar John Trussell a Licenced Victualler and Evelyn Trussell. Gerald was one of seven children.


The 1901 census shows Gerald aged 3, living with his Parents, 2 Brothers and 3 Sisters. At “The Red Lion Hotel” 15 Lower Green Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent and the 1911 census shows Gerald aged 13, living with his Parents and Sister at “The London PH”, 10 Peascod Street, Windsor, Berkshire.

Wartime Service

Gerald enlisted into the 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment with the service number 203295.


He was Killed in Action on the 30th October 1917, at the Third Battle of Ypres 1917, (Second battle of Passchendaele) (26th October 1917 to 10th November 1917).


He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. Note: Corporal Thomas Taylor of Essendon was also Killed on the same day and was in the same Battalion.

Additional Information

In 1917 Gerald’s Father was the Proprietor of “The Rose & Crown” in Essendon, Herts.
