Pre War
Thomas George TRIGG was born on 14th February 1882, in South Mimms, Potters Bar, Herts, son of William Henry Trigg a Carpenter and Eliza Trigg (nee Staines).
He was Baptised 27th February 1882, at St John the Baptist, Potters Bar, Herts.
1891 Census records Thomas aged 9, at school, living with his parents, sister Sarah (16), and brother Herbert (4), at 3 Upton Cottages, Coopers Road, North Mimms, Herts.
Thomas enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 3rd July 1900 as a Driver but transferred to Army Service Corps on 5th July 1900 as Private (Driver) T/16199 for a term of 3 years with the Colours and 9 years on Reserve.
His father William died in 1901, aged 54, in Barnet, Herts. On the 1901 Census Thomas was a Driver with the Army Service Corps Stationed at Colewort Barrack Portsmouth, Hampshire. His mother and brother Herbert (14) an Office Boy, were living at “Raincliffe” York Road, New Barnet, Herts.
On 20th June, Thomas extended his service period to 8 years, and to 12 years on 7th March 1908.
Thomas married Kathleen Gooch the daughter of Samuel and Catherine Gooch, on 27th June 1907, in Portsmouth.
He was transferred to Army Reserve on 3rd May 1910.
On the 1911 Census Thomas & Kathleen were living at 10 Blenheim Street, Southsea, Portsmouth, Thomas was working as a Carman.
Thomas was re-engaged from Reserve for 4 years on 24th February 1912 and transferred to “D” Section on 1st July 1912.
Wartime Service
Thomas was mobilised on 6th August 1914, and he went France on 10th September 1914. His service record does not state his Unit. Seeing action on the Western Front.
He was repatriated to UK on 10th September 1916, from No.8 General Hospital, Rouen, France. He was discharged under Par 392 (xvi) KR as no longer fit for war service on 26th November 1916. Thomas was admitted to Wandsworth Hospital, where he died on 22nd August 1917.
Additional Information
His widow Katherine/Kathleen was awarded a widow's pension of 13/9 a week from 1st October 1917, she also received a grant of £5, on 18th October 1917.
The 1921 Census records Katherine a widow and a boarder at 119 Winter Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire.
