William Keith Eltham was born in Hobart, Tasmania, the son of William C and Jenny C Eltham. He was educated at Queens College, Hobart, Tasmania and Technical School, Hobart, Tasmania and worked as a Clerk. 


He represented Tasmania in Cricket against England, South Africa, Victoria and New South Wales. He was a cartoonist and drew black and white sketches. Some of his works were published in Australian Newspapers.


His parents later lived at 156 Park Street, Hobart, Tasmania.

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 26 August 1914 and served as a Gunner with the Field Artillery Brigade 2, Battery 9. 


His unit embarked from Hobart, Tasmania, on board Transport A2 Geelong on 20 October 1914.  He was promoted to Lieutenant with

His father, Mr W Eltham of 156 Park St. Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, ordered his headstone inscription: "O REST IN THE LORD".
