Arthur Wilfred Toovey was the son of Arthur Toovey, Solicitor, and Clara (nee Moodie).


He was born in Marylebone, London in 1893, and educated at Aldenham School. He became a liveryman of the Haberdashers Company in 1905 and was a solicitor. Arthur was married to Minnie Amelia Kent in 1911


Wartime Service

Commissioned on 25 Sep 1914 in 12 (Service) Battalion Middlesex Regiment as second lieutenant, promotion to Lieutenant (18 July 1915) and Captain (18 May 1918).


He had transferred to Bedfordshire Regiment later in the war and died in Western Hospital, Cardiff. He is buried in Pinner, Middx.

Additional Information

13 (Transport Workers) Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment was nominally Infantry raised in Mar 1916 but was basically a Labour Battalion and was deployed to work in Docks at Boston, Ipswich, London, Harwich and Kings Lynn.
