Pre War
Frank Edward was born in Wood Green, Essex on 8 December 1893, the eldest of six children, son of James Frank Edward and Alice Maud Mary Edward (nee Jolly).
He was educated at Leyton County High School and Kirkdale Road School, Leytonstone. The family were living at 52 Hainault Road, Leytonstone, Essex on the 1911 Census and Frank was working as a Clerk for a hemp buyer. When he enlisted his stated occupation was Clerk.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in January 1916 and joined the London Scottish Regiment. He served with the expeditionary force from May 1916 and was killed in action in front of Bouleaux Wood during the fighting on the Somme on 25 September 1916.
Sergt G P Johnson wrote "Your son fell mortally wounded in maintaining our very high traditions. He was a fine lad and we all miss him".
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £5 6s.
