Philip Reginal Easton was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, on 31st August 1898, son of Philip Charles Easton a, Journeyman Carpenter and Mary Rosanna Helen Easton (nee Morrison). The eldest of eleven children.
Baptised on 16th October 1898, at Cheshunt, Herts.
1901 Census records Philip aged 2, living with his parents and brother Alan (1) in, Melrose Cottages, Flampstead End, Cheshunt, Herts.
1911 Census Philip (12), his parents, two brothers and four sisters are living with his widowed grandmother Annie Morrison at 188 Great College Street, Camden Town, Lon/ Middx. His brother Ian Conyers Easton (8), is living with his other grandparents George and Ellen Easton in, Flamstead End, Cheshunt, Herts.
Sister Olive Kathleen was born in 1911, sister Mable born 1914 and sister Joan Olga born 1916.
Philip was employed by the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock, Middx, as a Mechanical Engineer, from September 1914 until March 1917.
Wartime Service
We believe Philip enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in September 1917, aged 19, (from 1st April 1918, it became The Royal Air Force). Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 5th January 1918, he trained as a pilot on a dual Avro Training Aircraft.
Philip was killed on 30th July 1818, whilst flying a single seat Sopwith Dolphin (Serial No. D3670) at No. 4 Training Depot Station, Hooton Park, Wirral, Cheshire. A Royal Air Force Training Airfield. His aircraft stalled and spun into the Ground.
He was buried in his home town of Cheshunt, Herts, on 3rd August 1918.
Additional Information
His effects of £98-12s-6d, including his War Gratuity went to his father Philip Charles Easton. His parents were then living at 14 Market Street, Worthing, Sussex. His parents and some family members later emigrated to Canada.
Philip's headstone (not CWGC) has the inscription:
"THEIR NAME LIVETH EVERMORE"
