Pre War
From the 1911 Census we find Percy lived at 2 Maypole cottages Water End with his Father, Neville a Bricklayer, Mother Emma and brother Joseph, both boys born in Water End.
Recorded as born in North Mimms (possibly the postal town for Water End) and living in there when he enlisted in Hereford (Probably Hertford).
Wartime Service
Percy enlisted in September 1914, first into the 7th Bn. Bedfordshire Regiment (Private 12968) then transferred into the South Staffs, he according to the medals listing has 2 regimental numbers his other one was 3308. From the Roll of Honour we see that Percy was wounded twice in 1916 and then again, date unknown, we find from the Parish Magazine that Percy was 16 on enlistment, but he gave his age as 19. There was a letter to his Mother from the Regimental Chaplain: ”I regret to tell you that your Son was killed by shell fire whilst on duty this morning. He was badly wounded and was brought into the Regimental Aid Post, barely conscious on arrival and passed away in a few minutes.”
