Pre War

Frederick Vivian Alma Dyer was born in Simla, Punjab, India on 20 September 1894, the son of Emma Eliza Dyer.


On the 1911 Census he was a boarder at the Berkhamsted School, Chesham Road, Berkhamsted, Herts. His widowed mother was then living at 'Oakland', Cross Oak Road, Berkhamsted, Herts. 


Mrs E Dyer's (mother) address on medal card was given as 241B Cromwell Road, London SW5 and Liddington Hall, Ryder Hill, Guildford, Surrey.

Wartime Service

At the outbreak of war he obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant with the 1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment and served in France from 11 August 1914. 


He was promoted to Captain but was killed in action on 25 September 1915 at Loos, France, aged 21.


He is buried at Cambrin Churchyard Extension, Pas de Calais, France.

Additional Information

A war gratuity of £47 and pay owing of £7 6s 5d was received by his brother Sir Douglas Alexander Dyer, RAMC.


Probate was granted to Douglas Dyer with effects of £440 14s 1d.


(His parents were married in India but unable find details of his father without international Ancestry subscription).
